Why attend admitted student events

You know better that anyone that students are applying to more colleges than they used to—according to a 2015 National Association for College Admission Counseling report, 81 percent of Fall 2013 first-years applied to three or more colleges, and 32 percent applied to seven or more colleges. More students are also being admitted to multiple schools, making admission just the beginning of the college decision.

As online applications continue to become more user-friendly, students can more easily apply to more schools. And when students are submitting applications to as many as seven schools or more, they’re waiting to visit the colleges they apply to until they know they’ve been admitted.

That’s why admitted student visits are more important than ever. Even with all of the changes in application and admission trends, and all of the information available online, visiting a college is still the best way to determine if it feels like home.

Even for students who’ve been on campus for a tour or admission interview, admitted student visits are an still important step in getting ready to attend college. When students attend admitted student events, they actually get to meet their classmates as well as getting another opportunity to meet their program faculty.

There’s no better opportunity for students to get started as Cornellians than by joining their college classmates for Destination: Cornell. This year’s events are scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 28, Sunday, March 20, and Sunday, April 24.

At Destination: Cornell, students will:

  • Tour campus.
  • Meet their professors during the Academic Experience Dialogues.
  • Meet their classmates during activities and during meals at the Hilltop Café.
  • Ask Financial Assistance officers their questions.
  • Stay overnight in a residence hall (optional).
  • Attend a class (optional).
