Homecoming featuring “Radiolab” producer and alumni awards

Cornell College’s Homecoming and Family Weekend runs Oct. 9-12 and will feature a talk by longtime “Radiolab” executive producer Ellen Horne ’95, awards for alumni from 1960 through 2005, and a football game against Grinnell College.

Homecoming2015_SaveTheDate.inddHomecoming and Family Weekend starts on Friday, Oct. 9, with “Classes Without Quizzes” from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., where guests can sit in on various Cornell courses and see what students are learning—without the stress of cramming for a pop quiz. At 3:15 p.m. Ellen Horne ’95, this year’s Beta Omicron Distinguished Alumni Visitor, will give a talk titled “On a Curiosity Bender: Stories and Lessons from Radiolab.” Horne won two Peabody Awards as the executive producer of the NPR program “RadioLab.” Earlier this fall she started a new position as executive producer for Audible. In this role she will launch new shows in Audible’s effort to push the boundaries of spoken-word entertainment.

Friday evening features an all-alumni dinner from 6-9 p.m., reunion class awards at 7:30 p.m., a concert by the college’s Steel Drum Ensembles at 7:30 p.m., and a pep rally at 9 p.m.

On Saturday the annual Homecoming Convocation starts at 11 a.m. Six alumni will be honored. Judy Hesler Jorgensen ’60 will be given the Distinguished Achievement Award, Ann Ruby Hemken ’54, Duane Carlson ’55 , Robert McLennan ’65,  and Andrea Herrera ’85 will be given Leadership and Service Awards, and David Lienemann ’05 will be given the Young Alumni Achievement Award.

An all-alumni luncheon runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by the football game at 2 p.m.

Sunday will include farewell breakfasts for the 40th and 50th reunion classes and a memorial service for the class of 1965.
