Faculty-student research featured on London School of Economics blog
Research by politics professor Hans Hassell and recent alumna Kelly Oeltjenbruns ’15 has been featured on the London School of Economics’ American politics and policy blog.
The research, which resulted in a paper accepted by the journal American Politics Research, looks at the ways campaigns choose positive or negative campaign tactics. It found that the traditionally accepted narrative that campaigns start positively, move to negative territory, and then go positive again is incorrect, and that the biggest factor in whether campaigns choose negative attacks is whether there is an incumbent running for re-election.
