Performance explores sexual orientation and religion
The Cornell College Chaplain & Spiritual Life Office will host a performance of Joe Jennison’s one-man show “Jesus in the Confessional” on Feb. 25, at 3:30 p.m. in Allee Chapel. The 20-minute piece chronicles Jennison’s return to the Catholic Church after more than 30 years away.
Jennison uses the piece to tell his personal experience as a gay man, feeling rejected by his church growing up, but ultimately making his way back to faith after encountering Jesus in a confessional booth, and how that experience brought him back to church.
Jennison is the Main Street and Marketing Director for the Mount Vernon Lisbon Community Development Group.
The brief play will be followed by students, faculty, staff, and others sharing from their own experiences concerning their spiritual identities and journey both as LGBTQA individuals and as their allies. The event is free and open to the public.
