Almost, Maine starting Nov. 7
The Theatre Department at Cornell College is presenting “Almost, Maine,” a romantic comedy written by John Cariani starting Nov. 7 in Kimmel Theatre.
The play has received world- wide acclaim with productions by more than 70 professional companies since its Off-Broadway debut in 2006. Cornell’s production is directed by Artist in Residence, Ron Clark of Iowa City’s Riverside Theatre.
Almost, Maine opens Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimmel Theatre and runs Nov. 8, Nov. 14, and Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m., and Nov. 9 at 2 p.m.. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for seniors and students. Cornell College faculty, staff, and students are free with Cornell ID. Audiences are invited to return or remain in the theatre for a talk with the cast and crew on Saturday, Nov. 8 immediately following the production.
Set on a cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not quite what it seems in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost’s residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. Almost, Maine is a valentine from the edge with a dose of magic around the border. Costume design by rResident costume designer Jenny Nutting-Kelchen. Scenic design by guest designers Peggy and Paul Sannerud. Lighting design by University of Iowa Professor Emeritus David Thayer and musical composition provided by Felipe and Skye Corassco.
