Since 1978 the HERS Institute for Women in Higher Education has annually offered women faculty and administrators the opportunity to participate in an intensive program that prepares them to be leaders in higher education.
The 73 participants selected for this year’s HERS Bryn Mawr cohort represented institutions across the United States responding to the current environment for higher education globally. The Institute had a special focus this year on “Women Leaders: Facing the Challenges as We Re-Invent Higher Education.” Topics studied included “Understanding the Environment for Higher Education,” “Planning & Leading Change in the Academy,” “Managing & Investing Strategic Resources,” “Engaging Individual & Institutional Diversity,” and “Mapping Your Leadership Development.”
Reed has been at Cornell College since 2003, and has served as chair of the Department of English and creative writing and is the incoming co-chair of the gender, sexuality, and women’s studies program.
Her participation in the HERS Bryn Mawr Summer Institute was sponsored by a grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
