Hoobler one of NerdScholar’s 40 Under 40
Ellen Hoobler, assistant professor of art history, was named one of the 40 professors under 40 by the website NerdScholar.
Hoobler, who was named to the list that includes professors from schools as diverse as Penn State and Macalester College, was honored for her commitment to her students, including holding weekly sessions for them to improve their writing. The site said:
Professor Hoobler is known for supporting her students inside and outside the classroom. She attends cultural events with her students, takes them on trips to off-campus libraries when needed and hosts weekly “write-ins” to help with their thesis writing. One of her current students, Catherine, says, “She also dedicates much of her time to helping her students plan careers, find jobs, and gain useful skills for after graduation. Ellen really tries to bring in real-world applications to the things we are learning in class.”
The professors on the list were nominated based on their ability to captivate and engage students in the classroom, desire to interact with students outside of class and collaborate on research projects. Nominations were collected through student and faculty recommendations, articles and other pieces highlighting universities with outstanding professors, and supplemented by crowd-sourced review sites. The complete list is available on the NerdScholar website.
