Librarian and professor emerita Delores Sue Lifson died Oct. 10. She was 76.
Lifson worked at the Russell D. Cole Library from 1975 until her retirement in 1999, and during those years she trained more than 600 students. She enjoyed helping students with their reference questions and likened that work to that of the heros and heroines of the murder mysteries she loved to read.
She earned her undergraduate degree from Ball State University and her master of library science from Indiana University. After marrying Hugh Lifson (professor emeritus of art) in 1961, she ran the children’s program at the Brooklyn Public Library, and then worked for the College Community School District in Cedar Rapids. In addition to her career as a librarian, she was deeply involved with the Mount Vernon-Lisbon League of Women Voters. After retiring, Lifson became involved in the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Vernon, and discovered a passion for gardening.
She is survived by her husband, Hugh Lifson, two children, and five grandchildren.
