Roberts directed a production of the show in March 2009, the first time an all women of color student production was done at Cornell. In addition to its performances on campus, the show also traveled to Central College in Pella, Iowa, and to the Capitol Theatre in Davenport, Iowa. “‘For Colored Girls’ is a groundbreaking choreopoem and a spellbinding collection of vivid prose and free verse capturing the brutal, tender, and dramatic lives of contemporary women of color. Playwright Shange’s work was praised by The New Yorker for “encompassing… every feeling and experience a woman has ever had.” More information is available on the Theatre Cedar Rapids website.
