Mock Trial on the road to National Championships
Cornell College Mock Trial squads won two bids to the Opening Round Championship Series, the first step toward another berth in the National Tournament. So far this year the Cornell College Mock Trial team has taken nine top-five rankings, 19 outstanding attorney performances, 17 outstanding witness performances, and Chris Machold ’16 earned the title of Outstanding Mocker at the University of Iowa Cornshucker Challenge in November.
At the Regional Tournament Cornell hosted on Feb. 8 and 9 Chris Machold ’16 was recognized as an outstanding witness and Thomas Cooke ’15 received an outstanding attorney award.
On Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, Cornell College Mock Trial team competed at the National Invitational Tournament hosted by Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. The National Invitational is the largest invitational tournament in the country and draws teams from all over the United States. Team 1138, consisting of Claire McGuire ’14, MacKenzie Dreeszen ’14, Thomas Cooke ’15, Kenny Capesius ’16, Maria Goodfellow ’16, Kahn Branch ’16, Eric Andow ’16, and Evan Andersson ’16, placed second in a field of 52 teams.
