Penn-Goetsch to teach Smithsonian journeys course
Christina Penn-Goetsch, professor of art history, will be teaching a Smithsonian journeys course in September and again in May. She will lead a small group of Smithsonian travelers through southern Italy, where they will explore the region’s history and architecture.Penn-Goetsch joins the Smithsonian journeys with the experience of regularly introducing students to Rome with an off-campus course examining “The Eternal City” from Julius Caesar to Mussolini.
For the past several years, Penn-Goetsch has served as curator of “Fluidity of Gender,” an exhibition of sculptures by feminist artist Linda Stein, which was exhibited in the Peter Paul Luce Gallery at Cornell College in September 2010. The show has since traveled to more than 20 venues and is now on display in Austin. Work from the show and references to it appear in Women’s Art Journal, spring/summer 2013, and Surface Design, summer 2013.
