National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) has selected its “Of-the-Block” Award Winners for the month of October.
They are:
Student Winner: Sophomore Bekah Kurtz for her work with Cornell’s Homecoming and her dedication to furthering the community on campus. The nominator said, “Homecoming was a great success and our entire community benefited from her exceptional work and leadership ability.”
Program Winner: Rock-the-Vote Program spearheaded by Junior Rebecca Mather. The nominator said, “She reached out to Residence Life and worked with the RAs on campus in order to register as many Cornell students as possible and get them to vote early. She also reached out to all of the Hall Councils in order to organize debate viewing parties in the residence halls, so that individuals at Cornell had the opportunity to become informed and knowledgeable voters.”
Organization Winner: KRNL for their outstanding work broadcasting the Presidential visit and their vibrant programming. The nominator said, “Their broadcasting allowed those not able to attend the President’s speech, including students, alumni and interested family of college students to listen in. It was a huge honor to have President Obama on campus, and KRNL’s broadcast of the speech shows the effectiveness of student media and drive by students on campus to engage in discourse.”
Staff/Faculty Winner: Professor Jim Freeman. The nomination read, “He takes instruction of mathematics to another level in encouraging students to make and celebrate their discoveries. Not only that, but he encourages students to voice their curiosity, and if there isn’t time to pry into a topic in class, he will start extra evening classes that anyone who desires can attend.”
