HAIG Lecture: Torture in Colonial Spain’s Northwestern Frontier
Anton Daughters, ACM/Mellon post-doctoral teacher-scholar fellow in anthropology, will give a lecture on April 19th titled “Torture in Colonial Spain’s Northwestern Frontier: The 1686 Case of Joseph Romero ‘Canito.'” Daughters will discuss the prevalence of torture in 17th century Spanish colonial America, focusing on the documented interrogation of a rebellious O’odham Indian in 1686.
