Scholarship renamed to honor Chicago Club legend

The scholarship funded by the Cornell College Chicago Club (CCCC) has a new name, designed to honor one of the club’s most influential members, Ann Holcomb Carlson ’55.

The Ann Carlson Chicago Club Scholarship honors Carlson’s work revitalizing the club in the ’80s, as well as her long service on the Alumni Association Board of Directors, including a term as president.

Carlson and her husband, Duane Carlson ’55, hosted events at their home in the Hancock building, as well as the club’s annual holiday party.

“She embodied all one would ask of an alum,” said Andrea Herrera ’85, past president of the CCCC. “She gave of her time, treasure, and talent. She engaged new alums into the club with her warm and welcoming ways. She pushed for people to give all they could give and support their beloved alma mater as she has.”

The scholarship fund, which is worth more than $94,000, has funded 21 scholarships since the 1994–95 school year. The scholarships are awarded to minority students from Chicago with financial need.

One of the largest fundraisers for the scholarship is the club’s holiday party, which includes silent and live auctions.
