Levine interviewed in ‘Student Affairs Today’
Heidi Levine, dean of students, was interviewed for the “Leaders and Innovators” section of the March edition of “Student Affairs Today” about student success and mental health problems.
Levine, who has been at Cornell since 2008, was interviewed about the ways student affairs staff can improve student success by addressing mental health issues. Her advice for others includes listening to and supporting students, working closely with counseling and health staff, encouraging good habits and creating a team to address problems early, rather than letting them develop.
She has worked in higher education for 28 years, and in addition to master’s degree in student personnel services, she has a Ph.D. in counseling psychology. She told the publication that her background has prepared her well to deal with challenges that might arise with students.
“Having this background has helped me to understand and contextualize what students are struggling with and at the same time not to panic in the face of those issues—to respond without over-responding,” she said.
In addition to her work at Cornell, Levine is the outgoing president of the American College Personnel Association.
