Homecoming set for Oct. 14-16
Cornell College’s annual Homecoming will take place Oct. 14 through 16. Events include class reunions, the homecoming game vs. Dubuque, an all-alumni dinner and the annual homecoming convocation.
On Friday, alumni have the chance to sit in on Cornell classes, and then join an alumni and faculty reception at Paul K. Scott Alumni Center at Rood House to meet current and emeriti faculty, as well as President Jonathan Brand and Rachelle LaBarge at a special reception on Friday from 4 to 6 p.m.
All classes ending in -1 and -6 will celebrate reunions, from 2006 to 1941. Reunion parties will be held at various locations on Friday night. All alumni who have celebrated their 50th reunions are invited to the Golden Alumni dinner on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
On Saturday, from 8 to 10 a.m. Jackie Clark ’83, Tony Every ’91, Tina Naaktgeboren Brooker ’91, and J.D. Wagner ’92 will be inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame.
The annual Homecoming Convocation will take place at 11 a.m. in King Chapel. The Distinguished Achievement Award will be presented to Loren Hiratzka ’66 for his distinguished career in the field of cardiovascular science; the Leadership and Service Award will be awarded to David Korslund ’76, Daniel Brennan ’81, and Tamra Toussaint ’86 for their many years of service to the college and their communities; and the Young Alumni Achievement Award will be presented to Mikelle Wortman ’10.
(Note: Although elevator construction begins this fall weather permitting, King Chapel will not be handicap accessible. For those who are unable to climb the stairs, a live feed of Homecoming Convocation will be shown in Law Hall, Room 103.)
The homecoming game vs. Dubuque kicks off at 2 p.m.
Other events on Saturday include the “Doug Hanson Legacy” show, which features works by Cornell Alumni who studied with Professor Doug Hanson during his tenure at Cornell College. Hanson will be retiring in May 2012 after 41 years of teaching at Cornell. The Peter Paul Luce Gallery will be open Friday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday 2 to 4 p.m. A reception will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday. In conjunction with the legacy show Doug will have a small exhibit of platters and wall vases at the Lincoln Cafe (Sept. 11- Oct. 23).
And Saturday ends with a dinner and dance at the Cedar Rapids Marriott. All alumni, faculty, and emeriti faculty are invited. Cocktail reception begins at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m., and dance music featuring “FunkDaddies” will begin at 9 p.m.
