Cornell College has appointed geology Professor Ben Greenstein an associate dean in academic affairs.
The appointment is for a three-year period beginning July 1, 2012. As associate dean, Greenstein will have a variety of responsibilities including directing the academic advising and disability services programs; coordinating the academic components of the First-Year Program; working with faculty to encourage and coordinate faculty development; and serving as the academic liaison to the Associated Colleges of the Midwest. He will continue to teach half-time throughout the period of this appointment.
Since joining the faculty in 1997, Greenstein has served in a number of leadership roles at the college, including new faculty mentor, department chair, chair of the Committee on Administration and chair of the Dean’s Selection Committee. He currently serves as faculty coordinator of the Bahamas Field Station program and was recently appointed chair of the all-college Strategic Planning Committee.
Joe Dieker, dean of the college, said he was pleased Greenstein has accepted the position. “He is a respected member of the faculty, a fine teacher and scholar, and has excellent leadership abilities,” Dieker said. “I am looking forward to working with Ben on behalf of our students and faculty at Cornell College.”
