Red Cedar playing Cole Library
Red Cedar Chamber Music’s Summer Festival 2011, held at Cornell College, the Official Summer Home of Red Cedar Chamber Music, includes free performances in Mount Vernon, Marion and Springville. Summer Festival 2011 opens with a free family concert at 7 p.m. on Wednesday July 6, 2011 at Cole Library on Cornell’s campus.
The Cole Library concert will feature a 19th-century trio by Joseph Kreutzer for flute, clarinet and guitar. Red Cedar Chamber Music flutist, Jan Boland and guitarist John Dowdall will be joined by clarinetist Joseph Dieker, who is Cornell’s vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college. Boland, Dowdall and Dieker will also perform this concert at 3 p.m. on Saturday July 9, 2011 at the Marion Library at 1095 Sixth Avenue in Marion, Iowa.
The festival also includes a free concert by Summer Festival 2011 participants, flutist Laura Schulkind and guitarist Stephan Waechter of Duo Belo at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at the Springville Library at 264 Broadway in Springville. Duo Belo of Mountain Chamber Music in Denver, Colorado, specializes in music from Brazil and will also perform two exciting modern works, Dances in the Madhouse and Jinx on You.
In addition to giving their festival performance, Duo Belo will spend the week of July 10- July 17, 2011 studying the finer points of musicianship and the business of music making with Boland and Dowdall, directors of Summer Festival 2011.
Red Cedar Chamber Music’s Summer Festival 2011 is presented in collaboration with Cornell College. Summer Festival 2011 performances are sponsored by the Linn County Board of Supervisors Witwer Trust and Farmers State Bank.
