Relay for Life on April 15 and 16
Cornell College’s ninth annual Relay for Life will take place April 15 and 16 in the Small Multi Sport Center on Cornell’s campus.Teams are welcome to come set up their campsites at 6 p.m. and the opening ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. A new Fight Back ceremony at 1 a.m. is scheduled to motivate participants to continue our fight.
Relay for Life brings numerous groups and individuals concerned about cancer together for a unified effort to fight back. Last year, the event raised more than $41,000 for the American Cancer Society. Students at Cornell are working eagerly to match or surpass this goal during the 2011 event.
Cornell College’s 2010 Relay for Life raised $35.97 per person, the most money per-capita in the Midwest Division of College Events, and more than double the amount raised by the second-place event. This is the fourth year the event has been honored for its fundraising.
Relay For Life of Cornell College has more than 40 teams and nearly 300 participants. The sponsorship committee has also raised more than $10,000, exceeding last year’s sponsorship total. The survivorship committee has been responsible for organizing monthly volunteer opportunities such as trips to the Hope Lodge and Ronald McDonald House. The activities and entertainment committee has recruited the help of various organizations throughout campus to help with the night’s festivities, there will be entertainment ranging from dance lessons to an improv performance.
