Music events in April

April is a month of music at Cornell College, with 10 concerts between April 6 and April 25.

The events range from recitals to a full orchestra concert. A complete schedule and descriptions of the events follow.

Guest concert: Maia Quartet
Wednesday, April 6, at 7:30 p.m., Ringer Recital Studio, Armstrong Hall
Since its formation in 1990, the Maia Quartet, Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Iowa, has established itself nationally as an ensemble of innovation and versatility. Praised by critics for its “sparkling musical intelligence,” the quartet has appeared in major concert halls throughout the United States and abroad.  Quartet members are Tricia Park, violin, Elizabeth Oakes, viola, Hannah Holman, cello, with guest violinist Robert Waters. The program will feature Haydn’s String Quartet in C Major, Op. 20 No. 2, Ruders’ String Quartet No. 2, and Beethoven’s String Quartet in B-flat Major, Op. 130.

Student recitals
Friday, April 8, at 3:15 p.m., Ringer Recital Studio, Armstrong Hall
Senior Kassi Smith, flute, and junior Joshua Atcher, bass-baritone, will perform.

Wind Ensemble concert
Friday, April 8, at 7:30 p.m., King Chapel
The program will consist of Sousa’s “The Black Horse Troop,” Erickson’s Toccata for Band, Mihaud’s Suite Fraçaise, and Bukvich’s Symphony No. 1.

Steel Drum Ensembles concert, Saturday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m., King Chapel.

Junior recitals
Friday, April 15, at 3:15 p.m., Ringer Recital Studio, Armstrong Hall
Elizabeth Broussard, mezzo-soprano, and John Hill, baritone, will perform.

Orchestra concert, Friday, April 15, at 7:30 p.m., King Chapel.

Jazz Ensemble concert, Wednesday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m. Ringer Recital Studio, Armstrong Hall.

Junior recitals

Friday, April 22, at 3:15 p.m., Ringer Recital Studio, Armstrong Hall

Tara Ohrt, flute, and Bill Frisch, marimba, will perform.

Adjoa Skinner concert

Friday, April 23, at 5:30 p.m., Rathskeller, The Commons

A singer-songwriter who has lived all over the globe, Skinner’s music reflects her travels, as she incorporates traditional music from eastern Asia and Africa into a repertoire that includes jazz, folk, soul, and pop influences.

Senior recital
Saturday, April 23, at 3 p.m., Ringer Recital Studio, Armstrong Hall
Jonathan Nadolny, tenor, will perform.

Piano Quartet recital
Monday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m., Ringer Recital Studio, Armstrong Hall.
