Tristan Silverman Workshop
Did you know that writing doesn’t have to make sense? And that neither does being human, whether it be queer, straight, transgender, agendered or tall, even? Join Tristan Silverman for an interactive, dynamic writing experience. This workshop on Oct 31st is designed to nurture those who don’t consider themselves writers; those who write in the dark or never on paper; and those who call themselves writers, but have held back from being as big as they truly can be (on the page, on the stage, in a room, in the mirror). Silverman will encourage participants to let their words out of their cages — getting weirder, wider, and wilder than you ever knew you were allowed to be. The workshop will include fun analysis of published poetry and prose, individual and group exercises to generate new work, and the introduction of a strength-based feedback model, to nourish what’s already flourishing.
Then, come hear Tristan Silverman and Marty McConnell Poetry demonstrate what slam poetry means. Charismatic poet, performing artist, and powerhouse speaker Tristan Silverman is Chicago’s gift to queer poetry. She has won several national poetry slams and recently placed seventh overall in the Women of the World Poetry Slam. Marty McConnell is another poetry superstar, featured on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam.
