Homecoming schedule announced
Cornell College will celebrate its alumni and the completion of the record-setting Extraordinary Opportunities Campaign during Homecoming Oct. 15 through 17.
The annual event starts Friday, Oct. 15, with parties and dinners for the reunioning classes of ‘00s and ‘05s from 1940 to 2005, as well as a pep rally and fireworks at Ash Park.
On Saturday, the college will honor five alumni at Convocation. The convocation ceremony will be in the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, a few blocks east of campus because of construction on the roof of King Chapel. Lois Hetland ’75, an art professor at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and a research associate for Project Zero at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, will receive the Distinguished Achievement Award for her ground-breaking research in art education. The Leadership and Service Award will be given to Robert Engel ’55 and Lee Swanson ’60 for their many years of leadership and service to the college and to long-serving class agent Robert Pierce ’75. After Convocation, there will be an open house at the Paul K. Scott Alumni Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a historic campus tour starting at 12:30 p.m.
On Saturday evening, the college will hold its annual All-Alumni and Friends Homecoming dinner, and this year that dinner will also be a celebration of the Extraordinary Opportunities Campaign, which ended on June 30. The celebration will include a multimedia presentation that shows the impact of donations and the announcement of the total amount raised during the six-year-long campaign.
