Author, feminist to speak Sept. 30

Cornell College’s Third Wave Resource Group is presenting a talk by Jennifer Baumgardner titled “Can I Be A Feminist and….?” on Sept. 30 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in The Commons on Cornell’s campus.

If Obama and Palin both declare themselves feminists, what does that social movement even mean today? What does feminism mean for a generation where men are as likely to have those values as women? How do we put our belief in equality into tangible action? Can I be a feminist and be religious? Pro-life? A sex-worker? Sarah Palin?

Join activist, writer, and third wave feminist Baumgardner to discuss some of the burning questions around gender, equality, and social justice.

Baumgardner is a magazine writer, the co-author of two feminist classics—”Manifesta” and “Grassroots”—and a professor of writing. She is the author of “Look Both Ways: Bisexual Politics” and “Abortion & Life,” as well as the creator of the film and awareness project “I Had an Abortion.” Originally from Fargo, N.D., she lives and works in New York City.
