Gary Gilson is a journalist, writer and storyteller. He will speak in Shaw Lounge on Tuesday, October 5th at
7 p.m.
Gilson has taught at Columbia, Yale, Minnesota, Macalester, St. Thomas and, each fall for the past 15 years, at Colorado College in a political science course called Politics, Ethics & Journalism. For 14 years he served as executive director of the Minnesota News Council, and he received the Minnesota Newspaper Association’s most prestigious honor, the Distinguished Service to Journalism Award.
From there he entered television, working at both commercial and public stations and performing duties as a reporter, writer, producer, assignment editor, documentary producer and program host. His television work on the East and West coasts earned five Emmy Awards. Gary has written cover stories for MplsStPaul Magazine and many commentaries for the Star Tribune and the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
