Chair-elect and two new trustees named
John McGrane ’73 has been named chair-elect of the Cornell College Board of Trustees. McGrane is a partner with the law firm of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP in Washington, D.C., where he specializes in energy law.
McGrane, a trustee since 2001, serves on the executive committee and as vice-chair of the business affairs policy committee. He and his wife, Martha (Marty) Benson McGrane ’73, have donated $675,000 to the Extraordinary Opportunities Campaign and are helping to secure trustee funding to support the renovation and expansion of the President’s House.
McGrane will replace current board chair John Smith ’71 after the October 2011 meeting.
Two trustees were also elected to the board:
Frances Kao ’85, an attorney, has been elected to a three-year term. Kao, who graduated with majors in history and theatre and speech, is a partner in the Chicago office of Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom LLP, and focuses on domestic and international dispute resolution. She is a native Mandarin speaker and much of her practice focuses on dispute resolution in Asia, including China, Hong Kong and the Philippines.
Senior Eli Wade-Scott has been elected to a three-year term as the Class of 2010 young trustee. Wade-Scott is a member of the Cornell Mock Trial team that placed 6th nationally, was elected Phi Beta Kappa, interned for Sen. Tom Harkin through the Berry Center, and was the Helms Fellow in Community Development at United Way.
