Charles Connell, 2010 Honorary Alumni Award
Dr. Charles Connell, it is with deep appreciation that the Alumni Association of Cornell College recognizes your 42 years of service to the college as professor of German.
Since your arrival on the Hilltop in 1968, hundreds of Cornell alumni have benefited from your advising and your courses. You are recognized on campus for your generosity of time with students, your wit, and your patient nature. In addition to your ability to teach all the courses for a comprehensive German major, you are respected for your breadth of knowledge of European history and current events.
Furthermore, you are tireless in your service and loyalty to Cornell. Although faculty members are required to teach six blocks a year, you regularly teach all nine blocks. In addition, you served for a year as interim registrar.
No recognition of you would be complete without mentioning your repository of knowledge on the history of Cornell academics and your expertise on Robert’s Rules of Order for faculty meetings. You keep your colleagues in line and their debate and action orderly!
Finally, you are a Cornell parent. Your daughters Allegra (Class of ’88) and Deirdre (Class of ’87) are both attorneys.
Charles, you are now an official member of the Cornell alumni family. In recognition of your teaching career at Cornell, the Alumni Association of Cornell College proclaims you an honorary alumnus.
