MOUNT VERNON – Cornell College’s Mortar Board chapter is sponsoring “Just Dance! Marathon” beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, in the Small Multi-Sport Center. The event is open to the public and all proceeds go toward the Cedar Rapids Public Library.
Families are encouraged to attend between 6-9 p.m. during Family Fun hours for games, prizes, age appropriate music, and demos and tutorials from Slick Shoes swing dance club, a salsa dance group and an African dance troupe. Admission during Family Fun hours is $5 per child, and free for any adult accompanying a child.
The dance marathon begins at 9 p.m. and continues through the early morning hours. Admission is $5 per person ($4 for Cornell students with ID). Donate a gently used book to receive $1 off admission. Prizes will be offered throughout the evening.
Mortar Board is a national honor society for college seniors. For the past two years Cornell’s chapter has raised funds for the Cedar Rapids Public Library, which suffered millions of dollars in damages during the 2008 flood in what is believed to be the largest public library disaster in the United States.
