MOUNT VERNON — From Aug. 3 to 7, hundreds of college-seeking students and their families will participate in what is becoming a rite of summer, Iowa Private College Week, sponsored by the Iowa Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (IAICU).

Throughout the week, Cornell College and 27 other participating Iowa private college campuses will host tours and activities for college-bound students from Iowa and surrounding states. Students can register for the tours through any of the participating schools — call Cornell at 1-800-747-1112 — or at the IAICU Web site, www.thinkindependently.com.

“The Cornell College admission staff really enjoys meeting students and their families during Iowa Private College Week,” said Jonathan Stroud, vice president of enrollment and dean of admission. “Each year, we attract motivated and talented Iowans who are drawn to the opportunity to attend a truly national liberal arts college in their home state. We have been pleased to welcome students from not only Iowa but throughout the Midwest and across the nation to the Cornell campus during this special college visitation week.”

During Iowa Private College Week, each campus conducts daily campus tours. In addition, visitors can attend free information sessions twice daily at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Prospective students and their families will meet current students and faculty and learn about the extraordinary experiences afforded Cornell students through the distinctive One Course At A Time calendar, and explore the admission and financial aid process.

At the first college students visit, they will receive a passport to hold campus visit stamps. Students with three or more stamps will be eligible to win one of 56 bookstore vouchers worth $500. Cornell will award two such vouchers to two students who apply, are accepted, and enroll.

Cornell is distinctive in U.S. higher education in offering the combination of liberal arts and science study within the One Course At A Time framework in an active residential community. Cornell has consistently been recognized as a top institution and as highly affordable by various college ranking guides. Cornell was ranked in the U.S. News & World Report’s top tier for liberal arts colleges and was featured as among “Schools to Watch” and “Great Schools, Great Prices.”

Cornell was also 21st in a Forbes ranking of the best liberal arts schools in nation and 71st among all universities and colleges, and has been named one of The Princeton Review’s Best 368 Colleges, a College of Distinction, and one of the 40 Colleges That Change Lives. It was also recently named a “Top Financial Find” and a “Best Buy School” by the Fisk Guide to College.
