MOUNT VERNON – Legion Arts/CSPS will sponsor a free outdoor concert by the New York City-based urban Latino group Pistolera at Cornell’s Hilltop Terrace on Wed., June 17, at 7 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.
The show coincides with the Habitat for Humanity/AmeriCorps Build-A-Thon. More than 500 volunteers from across the country will build 20 homes for area flood victims. Several hundred volunteers will be housed in Cornell residence halls.
The Hilltop Terrace is next to King Chapel, just off the Ped Mall.
This will be Pistolera’s first concert in Iowa. Pistolera describes itself as a “nearly all-girl band” that “blends indie-pop with old-school Mexican rancheras.”
Their self-released first album Siempre Hay Salida (Always A Way Out) went to the Top 10 on the CMJ Radio charts and was featured in Rolling Stone Mexico, Billboard, The New Yorker, and Pacifica Radio’s “Democracy Now!”
In the event of rain, the concert will move to King Chapel.
