MOUNT VERNON – Pavla Brachova will represent Cornell College at Iowa Private Colleges Day at the Iowa State Capitol on Tuesday, March 17.
Students from all across the state will be presenting posters in the first floor rotunda of the capitol building from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. during a legislative session. They will present on a variety of topics, from the sciences, to art, literature, and mathematics.
Brachova will present a poster on a project she worked on alongside Cornell Biology Professor Craig Tepper on the phenotypic plasticity of coral species, or, rather, the physical characteristics of individual species that are created in response to their environment. The research was performed in the Bahamas and at labs at Cornell College, where Brachova and Tepper extracted and examined coral DNA.
Iowa Private Colleges Day is sponsored by the Iowa Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, which represents 30 different colleges and universities, including Cornell College. IAICU is an eclectic group of independent not-for-profit church and non-sectarian, liberal arts and professional colleges and universities that have created a rich heritage of independent higher education in the state of Iowa.
