MOUNT VERNON – Cornell College announced a new logo today, pairing the logotype in use since 1987 with a collegiate crest.
Graphic designer Ian MacDonald ’07 created the crest using elements from Cornell’s official seal, capturing the history and tradition associated with Cornell, as well as its capacity for innovation.
“Cornell College is gaining stature as one of the nation’s leading liberal arts institutions and the time has come to establish a logo to provide consistent recognition of our institution,” said President Les Garner. “A successful graphic identity program will help the college develop strong name recognition.”
The new logo is at the center of the college’s first graphic standards manual, which can be found in full at http://www.cornellcollege.edu/communications/policies/. Also available for download at that URL are the logo and templates for Cornell PowerPoint slides, fax cover sheets, and memos.
The manual establishes several other changes to Cornell’s visual identity. The tagline that sometimes appears under the words Cornell College is now “One Course At A Time.” The dashes have been removed. And while Cornell previously used two official purple colors (PMS 269 for general use and 269 for athletics), only one purple will be standard from this point forward (PMS 268).
