Hearne to perform March 10

MOUNT VERNON – Lisa Hearne, soprano, will sing in recital on Tuesday, March 10, at 7:30 p.m. in Ringer Recital Hall. Hearne, associate professor of music at Cornell College, will perform with Joyce Strabala of the Cornell piano faculty. Admission is free and open to the public.

people_lisahearne_april_21_2008Christine Bellomy, principal clarinet of the Cedar Rapids Symphony, will join Hearne and Strabala for “Shepherd on the Rock,” by Franz Schubert.

The program includes a song cycle by American Tom Cipullo set to humorous poetry of poet laureate Billy Collins called Another Reason I Don’t Keep a Gun in the House, which includes the title song as well as a song entitled “Putting Down the Cat.”

Other sets include Ned Rorem’s Cycle of Holy Songs on Psalm settings, songs by Samuel Barber set to words by James Joyce, and Maurice Ravel’s French melodies Five Greek Folk Songs.

Hearne has been a member of the Cornell faculty since 1992. In February she appeared as soprano soloist with the Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra in the Iowa premiere of Stephen Paulus’ holocaust oratorio To Be Certain of the Dawn.
