Eco Corps, Student Senate host Going Green week
MOUNT VERNON – The Sustainability Committee, along with Eco Corps and Student Senate, is hosting Going Green Week, Feb. 9-13. Events include an all-campus competition to recycle, with the winning dorms receiving a chocolate fondue party to close out the week.
All events will take place on The Orange Carpet.
“Environmental concerns such as climate change have the potential to change our way of life, and they merit a thoughtful response from us as individuals, as a community, and as members of a society,” says student senator Ben Thompson, an active member of Eco Corps.
Going Green Week kicks off Monday with “Trash it or recycle it?” where students will try to pick which pieces of trash are actually waste, and which ones can be recycled. Tuesday features a a recycled clothing fashion show on The OC over lunch.
On Wednesday, Go Green Week hosts “green panel,” where Jim Brown and Lucio Tolentino will answer questions about what exactly Cornell is doing to increase environmentalism. Later that day, Sodexo will weigh its trashcans in order to demonstrate just how much trash Cornell can generate.
Easy ways to save the environment—such as natural cleaning products, power strips, light bulbs and using cloth towels instead of paper towels—will be on display Thursday. Then, at dinner, the Student Senate Student Life Committee will go through all the dorms and collect the recycling bins. The dorm that has recycled the most will receive an all-hall chocolate fondue party on Friday at lunch.
