IOWA CITY – Cornell College Mock Trial closed out its fall invitational season with strong finishes from both squads at the 8th University of Iowa Cornshucker Challenge, in Iowa City on Dec. 6.

Team 404 finished in 5th place, with a record of 5-2-1. Eli Wade-Scott ’11 was recognized as an Outstanding Witness for his portrayal of a politician accused of murder by the Blitz News Network.

“I am very proud of our students,” said Coach Kristofer Lyons. “They have accomplished a lot so far this year, but, even more importantly, they realize they have a lot of more hard work to do prior to Regionals. Seeing where we are at now, and where we are capable of going, I am very excited for February.”

Cornell had wins over the University of Minnesota and the University of Kansas, and a split decision with Rhodes College.

Team 404 consists of Eli Wade-Scott ’11, Nedah Zamani ’10, Nic Wondra ’09, Kyle Blesener ’10, Kasun Wijegunawardana, ’10, and is captained by Madeline Roche ’10 and Annika Strombom ’10.

Team 405 was also in competition, and had rounds against Miami University, the University of Michigan, and St. Olaf, and had two wins against Fresno State.

Team 405 includes Albert Lin ’12, Lisa Chen ’12, Martha Haynes ’12, Julia Morrison ’12, Brandon Crawford ’12, and is captained by Abby Sturm ’12, and Francis Dixson ’10.

The Rams next compete at the University of Illinois in January, as their final tune up before the regional tournament in February.
