A new survey from Forbes ranking 569 undergraduate colleges and universities placed Cornell College 71st nationally, and first in the state of Iowa.
Cornell was also listed as one of “30 Surprises” for its 71st place ranking. Wesleyan College (GA), University of California, Berkeley (CA), Colorado College (CO), and Mills College (CA) were ranked 72-75, right after Cornell.
Cornell was also the highest ranked college in Iowa. Clarke (90), Grinnell (107), Coe (182), and Luther (188) rounded out Iowa’s top five.
Cornell is also among the five most competitively priced private colleges in the Top 75.
Princeton University, California Institute of Technology, and Harvard were the top three nationally.
“Small liberal arts schools shine in our rankings, probably due to both the quality of their faculty and the personal attention they can provide,” according to the article.

The survey, done in conjunction with the Center for College Availability and Productivity (CCAP), ranks the top 569 of over 4,000 undergraduate institutions based on “the quality of the education they provide, and how much their students achieve.” According to the article, “CCAP’s methodology attempts to put itself in a student’s shoes. How good will my professors be? Will the school help me achieve notable career success? If I have to borrow to pay for college, how deeply will I go into debt? What are the chances I will graduate in four years? Are students and faculty recognized nationally, or even globally?”
