Cornell Supporting Flood Recovery
Cornell’s campus remains safe from flooding, and waters in the immediate region have mostly receded. Utilities and services are functioning normally, offices are open, and classes will start on time.
Now we are supporting the recovery efforts. Approximately 300 Red Cross volunteers are being housed on campus. Sixty women, children, and live-in staff from a Cedar Rapids social service agency are staying in another residence hall. Various businesses have taken root in classrooms and other available space. Including Cornell students working or conducting research in the summer, nearly all resident hall space on the west side of campus is occupied.
Our law firm, Shuttleworth & Ingersoll, is also renting space to operate a temporary satellite office from campus.
All guests on campus will be here through July 8, when Cornell will shift its focus to welcoming students back on campus.
Sodexo, which provides food and cleaning service to Cornell, is providing logistical support for our campus guests responding to the disaster.
Employees who have incurred damage due to the floods should know that many staff want to help. As you are able to get back into your home and need help in cleanup efforts, please contact Human Resources Director Vickie Farmer, x4243, for assistance.
Updates will be posted regularly on the college’s home page at www.cornellcollege.edu. Questions may be directed to The Commons Info Desk at (319) 895-4000.
