ALEXANDRIA, VA – As part of the Cornell College Fellows Program, Leslie Tweeton has joined the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) for a fellowship in Public Affairs.

Tweeton’s fellowship with NACDS will offer exposure to the Association’s internal and external operations, and she will focus on government affairs, public policy, and communications. In order to develop her understanding of these areas, Tweeton will attend lobbying visits on Capitol Hill, conduct research and writing for NACDS’ policy and communications initiatives, and study the effects of legislation on patients and pharmacies.

“My career goals center around one general idea – the societal effects of legislation,” said Tweeton.  “Although the legislative process is intriguing in and of itself, I find the relationship between legislation and those it impacts to be the most compelling aspect of public policy.”

The intensive fellowship will broaden Tweeton’s knowledge of representative government and advocacy, while also allowing her to contribute to the mission of NACDS.

“We are very pleased that Leslie has accepted this valuable fellowship opportunity,” said NACDS President and CEO Steven C. Anderson, IOM, CAE. “Trade associations are essential to public policy, and her time at NACDS will provide unique exposure to the workings of Washington, D.C, as well as the role of pharmacies in our nation’s healthcare.”

A native from Center Point, Iowa, and a member of the class of 2009 at Cornell, Tweeton is majoring in politics and philosophy.
