Wind Ensemble concert tonight at 7:30 p.m.
MOUNT VERNON – The Cornell Wind Ensemble concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 18, in King Chapel, features special guest artists the Eastern Iowa Brass Band (EIBB). The EIBB is the only band of its kind in Iowa and is a six-time North American Brass Band Association division champion. Admission is free.
The student Wind Ensemble will perform three works. “The Royal Welch Fusiliers” by John Philip Sousa, was composed at the request of the officers of the United States Marine Corps who had served alongside the Royal Welch Fusiliers during the Boxer Rebellion in North China in 1900. “Incantation and Dance” was written by John Barnes Chance while working as a Young Composers Project fellow in the North Carolina public schools. “Vox Populi” by Richard Danielpour. Danielpour, one of America’s foremost living composers, takes brassy jazz-derived figures (the Vox Populi – “the people’s voice”- of the title) and throws them around a disturbed and disturbing world that is very recognizably our own.
The EIBB program will be announced from the stage.
