Cornell professor named Fulbright Scholar

MOUNT VERNON – Cornell Professor of History Robert Givens was named a Fulbright Scholar for 2008-2009.

The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program sends approximately 1,100 American scholars and professionals per year to more than 130 countries, where they lecture and conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields. In academic year 2006-2007, these fields include agriculture, business, journalism, and technology education among others.

Givens will travel to St. Petersburg, Russia, from September-January. During this time he will be teaching at the School of International Relations, St. Petersburg State University, where he also taught as a Fulbright Scholar in 1999-2000. Givens will also use this time to research changing interpretations of the Stalinist period.

Givens has taught history at Cornell College since 1979 and received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkley.
