Youth Vote Leadership Summit at Cornell College

MOUNT VERNON — Americans for Informed Democracy (AID), a nonpartisan youth organization, will hold a Youth Voice Youth Vote summit for area college students at Cornell College from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, in The Commons. This is the only Iowa location for this series of summits designed to ensure that young people’s calls for a more interconnected, collaborative role for the United States on global issues are heard in the upcoming election.

The summit is free and breakfast and lunch are provided.

Speakers include Katie Danko, Midwest field organizer for Oxfam America; Matt Martin, program officer in policy analysis and dialogue at the Stanley Foundation; James Ploeser, cofounder of the Madison (Wis) Fair Trade Action Alliance and coordinator of the Iowa Fair Trade Campaign; Kaytee Riekh, grassroots organizer for Health GAP, a non-profit advocacy organization that works on eliminating the barriers to access to medicine for people living with HIV/AIDS in the developing world; and Marceline White, president of AID.

They will discuss fair trade, poverty reduction, HIV/AIDS, climate change, and peace and security issues. They will also train participants in ways to engage with presidential candidates on these issues.
