MOUNT VERNON — Borealis Wind Quintet, acclaimed as one of America’s preeminent chamber ensembles, will open Cornell College’s 10th season of Music Mondays with a concert Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in King Chapel.
The charismatic Borealis Wind Quintet earned a Grammy nomination for Best Classical Chamber Music Performance — a first for a wind quintet — for their “A La Carte” CD. The Washington Post praises their “sensitive collaborations that have a sophisticated and cosmopolitan air.” Featuring the finest of the classics, engaging commissions, opera arias and works for piano and winds, a Borealis concert is “a polished, elegantly turned performance,” remarks the New York Times.
Concert admission at the door is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Admission is free to Cornell students, faculty, staff, emeriti faculty, retired staff and their families, and to holders of the Purple Pass.
The remaining Music Mondays concerts are Ames Piano Quartet on Nov. 19, pianist Mykola Suk on Feb. 11 and Tapestry, a female vocal ensemble making its third Cornell appearance, on March 17.
