MOUNT VERNON — One of the world’s preeminent brass ensembles, the Chicago Brass Quintet, will perform Monday, April 15, at 8 p.m. in King Chapel on the Cornell College campus.
Admission is $8 at the door. This is the final concert in Cornell’s 2001-02 Music Mondays series.
“For anyone whose tastes in brass quintet playing are satisfied by technical brilliance, taut ensemble, flashy programming and a touch of humor, the Chicago Brass Quintet provides ample fulfillment,” wrote a Washington Post reviewer.
Founded in 1964, the group has toured the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia and South America. Current members are among Chicago’s most distinguished musicians, performing with the Chicago Opera Theater, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera and other orchestras and ensembles. All have been associated with the DePaul University School of Music and other colleges and universities. The quintet’s performance repertoire ranges from Bach to Bernstein, from Gabrieli to Gershwin. The ensemble last appeared at Cornell for the May Music Festival in 1994.
