MOUNT VERNON — The Peabody Trio chamber music ensemble performs Monday, Nov. 12, at 8 p.m. in King Chapel on the Cornell College campus.
Admission is $8 at the door. This is the second concert in Cornell’s 2001-02 Music Mondays series.
The Peabody Trio brings to each performance “the romantic fervor of the early 20th-century greats,” claims the Washington Post. Since winning the Naumburg Chamber Music Award in 1989, the trio has established itself as one of the leading chamber music ensembles, with a repertoire ranging from the classical to the contemporary, from Haydn to Israeli composer Shulamit Ran. The trio has performed at the Tanglewood and Ravinia summer festivals and toured Great Britain, Japan and Israel. Numerous radio broadcasts, including “Saint Paul Sunday Morning” and National Public Radio’s “Performance Today,” have engaged the trio.
The trio is the resident ensemble of the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, where founding members violinist Violaine Melançon and pianist Seth Knopp are on the faculty. Natasha Brofsky, formerly principal cellist with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and assistant principal of the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, completes the ensemble.
The Peabody Trio’s program at Cornell will feature Piano Trio in D minor, opus 120, by Gabriel Faure; Beethoven’s Trio in D Major, opus 70, No. 1, “Ghost”; and Brahms’ Piano Trio in B Major, opus 8.
Upcoming Music Mondays concerts feature Ensemble Amarcord, a German a cappella quintet, Feb. 18; and the Chicago Brass Quintet on April 15.
