MOUNT VERNON — Paolo Nello, an expert on modern Italian history, will speak on “Mussolini and Hitler: Real Friends?” at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, in Hedges Conference Room of The Commons. This is the 13th Eric C. Kollman Memorial Lecture. Admission is free.
Nello has been a member of the political science faculty at the University of Pisa since 1984. He teaches contemporary European history and the history of political movements and parties. During Term 1 at Cornell he is teaching Italy from the Risorgimento through Mussolini.
Nello received his laurea from the University of Pisa in 1975 and his dottorato di ricerca in history and humanities from the European University Institute in Fiesole in 1981. His specialty is the history of Italian Fascism. He is the author of many articles and five books.
The Eric C. Kollman Memorial Lecture honors a distinguished Cornell history professor who taught from 1944 to 1973.
