Joan Claar, vice president and dean of students at Cornell College, has been recognized for Outstanding Performance as a Senior Student Affairs Officer by Region IV-East of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA). The award will be presented at the annual NASPA Region IV-East Conference on Feb. 6-8 at the Collins Plaza Hotel and Convention Center in Cedar Rapids.
Claar also has been honored for Outstanding Contributions to NASPA and will be recognized at the organization’s national conference in Indianapolis in March. Claar chaired the national conference in 1991, served as NASPA president in 1992-93 and currently serves as vice president of the NASPA Foundation board.
Claar came to Cornell in August 1994 after 15 years as dean of students at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind. She plans to retire from Cornell in July 2000. The college has begun a search for her successor.
NASPA is an organization of college and university student affairs professionals with more than 8,000 individual members and 1,175 member campuses. Region IV-East covers Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Ontario and Wisconsin.
