Cornell among nation’s most interesting colleges

Cornell College is one of the 13 most interesting colleges in the U.S., according to a Huffington Post review of the Fiske Guide to Colleges for 2012.

Cornell is one of only two Midwestern schools on the list, along with Kalamazoo College.  Among other reasons, Cornell was featured because of its close relationship between faculty and students and its distinctive One Course At A Time academic calendar. The article mentions that Cornell’s schedule allows for flexible off-campus study, enabling students to pursue their interests anywhere that’s best suited to their field of study.

Other prestigious colleges on the list included Davidson College and Colorado College—the only other well known institution to use the block calendar.

“The hallmark of the Cornell College experience is the extraordinary opportunities, in the classroom and beyond, for students afforded, in large part, by our innovative One Course At A Time academic calendar,” said Jonathan Stroud, vice president for enrollment. “Interesting people are drawn to interesting places.  Along with our calendar, we believe a dynamic faculty and a talented, intellectually curious student body make Cornell a wonderful institution of higher learning.  In addition to its standing recognition as one of the nation’s finest liberal arts colleges, we are very pleased Cornell is featured among its most interesting ones as well,” he added.

Cornell has long been recognized as a top institution, and is included as one of 40 Colleges That Change Lives. The college has also been cited in The Fiske Guide to Colleges as a “Best Buy.”
