John Smith '71 named most influential in corridor
John Smith ’71 was named the 2009 most influential person in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City Corridor by the Corridor Business Journal (CBJ) as someone who “almost single-handedly is changing the current perception and bringing back strong corporate community leadership,” according to an article published last week.
The CBJ went on to cite his philanthropy and community involvement as the primary reasons Smith has had such an impact on the corridor. His efforts to aid in recovery from flood relief, specifically the Block by Block program, were among his many accomplishments that make him an integral part of the community.
His political influence played a part as well. According to the article “If a would-be politician…wants to run for office Mr. Smith is one of the first people they talk to.”
Smith is currently the chair of the Cornell College Board of Trustees and chairs Cornell’s successful Extraordinary Opportunities Campaign. Click here for more news on John Smith.
